‘Just unbelievable’: Joe Cole likens Liverpool FC star to Lionel Messi
Joe Cole says Liverpool FC star Mohamed Salah produced a touch worthy of Lionel Messi against Watford
Joe Cole has likened Mohamed Salah to Lionel Messi after his performance in Liverpool FC’s 2-0 victory over Watford on Saturday.
The Egypt international was the key difference between the Premier League’s leaders and basement club after the Reds sealed three points at Anfield.
Salah broke the deadlock in the first half with a clinical finish with his right foot after Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane combined to set the African forward free.
The 27-year-old produced a clever touch with his left foot to deceive the opposition defenders before Salah finished with his weaker right foot.
Salah doubled the home side’s lead on the stroke of full-time with an outrageous bit of skill to deceive Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster.
The Liverpool FC forward has scored nine goals and has made four assists in 14 games in the Premier League so far this season.
Former Reds midfielder Cole likened one of Salah’s touches for his opening goal to Messi after Liverpool FC’s close-fought win.
“The pass [from Mane] into the space is unbelievable but don’t underestimate that, the weight of pass there,” Cole told BT Sport.
“He’s inviting Salah to take it on his good foot. But then it’s all about Mo Salah, we saw him score a goal in the week which was just unbelievable.
“From Watford’s perspective as well, look at the amount of defenders trying to get back.
“I know they’re 0-0 at Anfield, give good credit to them, but the finish, that little touch he took there, most players haven’t got that composure, that little Messi touch, where you chop inside and just want to get the shot away.
“That little extra touch took it out so he could get his body shape right and just lift it into the top corner.
“It’s unbelievable talent and that’s the difference between the two teams.
“The high elite people get to this level. He wanted to improve his right foot and he’s scored three absolute worldies on his right this week.”
Liverpool FC signed Salah in a £39m deal from Serie A side AS Roma in the 2017 summer transfer window.
Salah won the Champions League last season following a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
The Egypt star has also won the PFA player of the year as well as consecutive golden boots.
