‘A huge night for him’: BT Sport pundit raves about Liverpool FC star’s display in 2-0 win
BT Sport pundit Peter Crouch says Naby Keita "proved his worth" with his goal in Liverpool FC's 2-0 win at RB Salzburg on Tuesday night
Peter Crouch credited Naby Keita with a brilliant performance in Liverpool FC’s 2-0 victory over Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp opted to start the Guinea international in his second successive game after Keita impressed with a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win at Bournemouth in the Premier League last weekend.
Keita justified his inclusion in their final Champions League group-stage fixture with the breakthrough goal in a tense clash between Salzburg and Liverpool FC in Austria.
Two former RB Salzburg players combined to help the Reds get their opening goal after Sadio Mane picked out Keita with a brilliant cross to allow the Guinea star to steer a header into the goal.
Mohamed Salah doubled Liverpool FC’s lead a minute later when the Egypt international finished from a nearly impossible angle to cement three points for the visitors.
Although Salah’s goal provided the game’s biggest talking point, Keita was responsible for the standout performance in Liverpool FC’s crunch Champions League clash.
And former Liverpool FC striker Crouch was impressed with Keita’s display in the middle of the park.
“A huge night for him [Keita]. He’s played his way into the team with the game at Bournemouth, then deservedly so starting tonight,” Crouch told BT Sport.
“He’s a different player to Milner or Fabinho who at times in the first half I thought they missed.
“But Keita proved his worth tonight, he got his goal and he was a threat all evening with his passing and his route into the front three.”
Liverpool FC signed Keita in a £48m deal from German side RB Leipzig in the 2018 summer transfer window.
However, Keita’s impact for the Reds has been limited by persistent injury problems.
