Liverpool FC told Sadio Mane is the ‘new Cristiano Ronaldo’
Ex-Netherlands boss Danny Blind talks up Liverpool FC star Sadio Mane
Liverpool FC star Sadio Mane is the new Cristiano Ronaldo, according to former Netherlands head coach Danny Blind.
The Senegal international has been Liverpool FC’s key player in the Premier League title race so far this season.
Mane has scored nine times and has made four assists in 15 games in the Premier League to help the Reds build a significant lead at the top of the table.
The 27-year-old got on the score-sheet and made an assist in Liverpool FC’s 5-2 victory over Everton in the Merseyside derby before Mane was rested for their 3-0 victory over Bournemouth on the south coast.
Mane played a key part in Liverpool FC’s Champions League success last season, starting their 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League.
The African star finished as the joint top goal-scorer in the Premier League alongside his team-mate Mohamed Salah and Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Mane finished in fifth place in the recent Ballon d’Or voting behind Lionel Messi, Virgil van Dijk, Ronaldo and Salah.
Former Dutch head coach Blind believes Mane is taking over the mantle from Ronaldo after his excellent performances.
“Sadio Mane is the new Ronaldo in world football,” Blind is quoted as saying by Metro. “As an attacking player he is absolutely fantastic. I can go through all his qualities – and he is superb in every aspect.
“He can give brilliant assists, he is an incredible athlete, and I could go on even more.
“Mane is the super modern player. If you look at his skills, that is one great thing, but he is able to combine that with astonishing sprints right throughout the game.
“That requires so much power. You have to be incredibly strong both physically and mentally. Sadio has it all.
“I don’t compare Mane to [Lionel] Messi. I think Sadio is much more like Cristiano Ronaldo in his very best years.”
Liverpool FC signed Mane in a £34m deal from Southampton in the 2016 summer transfer window.
Mane could face his former club RB Salzburg in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
