‘Big night for him’: Virgil van Dijk impressed with 24-year-old Liverpool FC star
Virgil van Dijk hails Naby Keita's performance in Liverpool FC's 2-0 win over RB Salzburg
Virgil van Dijk hailed a “big night” for Naby Keita after the Liverpool FC midfielder starred in their 2-0 victory over RB Salzburg in the Champions League.
Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp opted to start Keita for the second successive game in all competitions in a clear show of faith from the German head coach.
Keita scored a goal and made an assist in Liverpool FC’s 3-0 victory over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium last weekend to leave a big impression on the game.
The 24-year-old justified his inclusion in the final Champions League group-stage fixture with the opening goal on Tuesday night to help Liverpool FC qualify for the round of 16.
Keita broke the deadlock with a powerful header from Sadio Mane’s cross before Mohamed Salah doubled the away side’s lead with a finish from a tight angle.
The Guinea international has struggled with persistent injuries since his move to Liverpool FC in 2018 but Keita now looks like he could be turning a corner at Anfield.
Van Dijk was quick to heap praise on his Liverpool FC team-mate after Keita’s impressive performance in Austria.
“It was a big night for him and I’m very happy for him to be that important and hopefully he can keep being important like the rest of the boys,” Van Dijk told BT Sport.
“He’s a very good player and we all can see that and today he showed it with the goal as well.”
Keita started his career in Europe with RB Salzburg before the dynamic midfielder completed a switch to RB Leipzig.
Liverpool FC signed Keita in a £48m deal from the Bundesliga outfit in the 2018 summer transfer window.
