James Milner believes that Liverpool FC need to keep more clean sheets this season as they look to end their long wait for the Premier League title.

The Reds are currently top of the Premier League table and are the heavy favourites to win the top-flight crown this term after a brilliant start to the new season.

Liverpool FC are aiming to go one step further than they did last season, when they finished second in the table and a single point behind Manchester City.

The Merseyside outfit have been blowing teams away with their impressive attacking displays, but they have been guilty of leaking more goals at the back than they would like.

Milner feels that the Reds must keep the “pedal” down in the race for the title, and feels that some more solid defensive performances would certainly help their cause.

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports before Saturday’s clash with Bournemouth, Milner said: “A few more clean sheets would help.

“There’s a lot of pressure there if you’re not keeping clean sheets, you need a couple of goals to win a game which we’re getting at the moment.

“I think the other area we need to improve on is when we are on top we are not quite sticking the pedal down and seeing teams off and moving away.

“That shows the quality in the Premier League and the heart and desire other teams have. Teams don’t roll over, it just doesn’t happen.”

The Reds were 3-0 winners against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Liverpool FC will return to Champions League action on Tuesday night when they take on RB Salzburg in Switzerland.

They will then switch their attentions back towards Premier League affairs and their home clash against Watford next Saturday.
