Gary Neville raves about three Man United stars after 2-1 win at Man City
Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville raves about Man United's forwards in Saturday evening's 2-1 win at Man City
Gary Neville praised Manchester United trio Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard for their collective performance in Saturday’s 2-1 win at Manchester City.
Manchester United wasted early opportunities to break the deadlock when Daniel James and Lingard couldn’t find a way past Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson.
Rashford finally capitalised on the away side’s impressive start when the England striker scored from the penalty spot after Bernardo Silva brought down the 22-year-old.
The visitors continued to pose a threat on the break and Martial doubled Manchester United’s lead six minutes later when he squeezed a finish past Ederson at his near post.
Rashford could have extended his goal tally by another two goals but the Manchester United forward proved wasteful in front of goal.
Manchester City pushed for a goal in the second half and Nicolas Otamendi halved the deficit with five minutes to go but the Citizens couldn’t find a winner.
Sky Sports pundit Neville was impressed with Manchester United’s brilliant performance in the derby clash at The Etihad.
“If you were a Man United fan ahead of Tuesday night, with a game against Spurs at home and Man City away, you were fearing what could happen,” Neville said on Sky Sports.
“I never expected this. Man City chasing down Liverpool, trying to win the third title in the row. Man United came here with a plan to shock them.
“Rashford, Martial and Lingard were breathtaking for the first half hour. The rest of the team dug in for the last hour.”
Neville added: “It’s been a really brilliant four days for Manchester United. It’s desperate [times] for Manchester City.”
Manchester United have bolstered their top-four prospects this week with two big victories over Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.
The Red Devils recorded successive Premier League victories for the first time this season to narrow Chelsea FC’s advantage to five points in fourth spot.
Manchester City, on the other hand, are 14 points adrift of Premier League leaders Liverpool FC after two defeats in their last two four games.
The Red Devils will host Everton at Old Trafford next Sunday, while Pep Guardiola’s side will make the trip to Arsenal.
