BBC Sport pundit Mark Lawrenson is backing Man City to win 2-0 against Man United at The Etihad on Saturday evening
Mark Lawrenson is backing Manchester City to beat Manchester United in their derby clash at The Etihad on Saturday evening.
Manchester City were 5-1 winners against Burnley at Turf Moor on Tuesday night as they made a return to winning ways after a 2-2 draw with Newcastle United last weekend.
The Citizen have collected seven points from their last four Premier League games, while league leaders Liverpool FC have earned maximum points during the same run.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have opened up an 11-point lead over the defending champions after 15 Premier League games to put them in pole position to win the title.
Manchester United received a confidence boost in mid-week with a 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford thanks to Marcus Rashford’s double.
Their narrow win over their top-four rivals ended a run of back-to-back stalemates which threatened to end their hopes of securing a Champions League spot for next term.
BBC Sport pundit Lawrenson is backing Manchester City to ease to a 2-0 win against Manchester United at The Etihad on Saturday evening.
“I know United played very well in their win over Tottenham on Wednesday, and that they have had some good results against the bigger clubs this season,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“But from their wins over Chelsea and Spurs to their draw with Liverpool, those results have all come at Old Trafford, and they have still only won once away in the league – at Norwich.
“City were impressive as they beat Burnley at Turf Moor on Tuesday night and for Gabriel Jesus to score twice was more good news for them.”
Manchester City were 3-1 winners against Manchester United at The Etihad last term en route to winning their second consecutive Premier League title.
The Citizens are in third position and a point adrift of second-placed Leicester City in the title race.
