The Red Devils will be looking to return to winning ways in the Premier League this weekend following a 3-3 draw with Sheffield United last time out.
Manchester United came from 2-0 down at Bramall Lane to lead 3-2 thanks to goals from Brandon Williams, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford.
However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were unable to hold on to secure three points against the Blades after they conceded a stoppage-time equaliser.
Manchester United have only managed to win two of their last six Premier League fixtures.
The Red Devils were 3-1 winners against Brighton in their last league fixture at Old Trafford.
Aston Villa have the worst away record in the Premier League this term, securing one win in six outings.
They picked up their only three points in a 5-1 victory at fellow promoted side Norwich City.
Former Liverpool FC defender Lawrenson is backing Manchester United to secure a comfortable win over Aston Villa on Sunday.
“I have seen enough from Villa to believe they will be fine and avoid the drop,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“With Manchester United it is a difficult one, like the toss of a coin: heads they look like a good side, tails they look like they just met on the M62.
“It was a little bit like that at Sheffield United last week although they got a point and could have had three. They are still a work in progress with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.”
Manchester United haven’t lost to Aston Villa at Old Trafford in over a decade.
The Red Devils have kept one clean sheet in their last 12 league games.
