Pundit claims Man United star is better than Trent Alexander-Arnold
BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks says Man United star Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a better defender than Liverpool FC's Trent Alexander-Arnold
Manchester United full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a better defender than his Liverpool FC rival Trent Alexander-Arnold, according to BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks.
Alexander-Arnold has earned rave reviews for his performances at right-back in Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool FC team over the past couple of season despite being just 22.
The Reds star is the youngest-ever player to reach successive Champions League finals, winning the Uefa title earlier this year after a 2-0 victory over Spurs.
However, Alexander-Arnold’s spot in the England team is under threat from Manchester United summer signing Wan-Bissaka, who continues to excel at Old Trafford.
The 22-year-old produced a solid performance to keep Raheem Sterling relatively quiet during Manchester United’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City at The Etihad.
Wan-Bissaka was Manchester United’s standout defender thanks to his never-say-die approach to keeping Manchester City at bay in the derby clash.
The £50m signing made five successful tackles to play a big part in Manchester United securing back-to-back Premier League victories for the first time this season.
BBC Sport pundit Crooks was quick to lavish praise on Wan-Bissaka, adding that the Manchester United star is a superior player to Alexander-Arnold in the defending department.
“I’ve been banging on about Aaron Wan-Bissaka for nearly two years now. I saw him play for Crystal Palace against Fulham at Craven Cottage, and Roy Hodgson didn’t want to talk about the player after the game for fear of attracting too much attention to the lad,” Crooks told BBC Sport.
“I also said he was a Manchester United player if ever I saw one. His defending in the Manchester derby was nothing short of outstanding.
‘Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold might be better on the ball but there isn’t a better defender in the country on his day than Wan-Bissaka.”
Manchester United are in fifth position and five points behind Chelsea FC, who occupy the final Champions League qualification spot.
