Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants Man United star to continue excellent form
Man United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hoping Marcus Rashford's prolific form continues
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has challenged Marcus Rashford to continue his excellent form for Manchester United.
The England international scored twice in Manchester United’s 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Wednesday night to secure a return to winning ways for the Red Devils.
Ahead of Saturday’s clash with Manchester City, the 22-year-old had scored 10 goals in his last 10 games for club and country to find his form in front of goal after a difficult spell for the Manchester United star.
Rashford’s double against Spurs took his tally to nine goals and four assists in 15 games in the Premier League this season prior to the derby.
The Manchester United number 10 has been under pressure to perform after the Red Devils opted to sell forwards Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez in the summer.
The transfer deals left Solskjaer’s squad lightweight in the attacking department.
Speaking at his pre-match media conference ahead of Manchester United’s clash against Manchester United in the derby at The Etihad on Saturday evening, Solskjaer gave his verdict on Rashford’s form.
“He is [scoring regularly] at the moment and how he didn’t get the goal against Aston Villa is beyond me,” Solskjaer said.
“He’s consistently now scoring, with 10 in the last 11 or whatever, but it’s not like four in one and two or three [games] without. It’s not just in spurts.
“He’s consistently getting chances and into better positions, and on Wednesday night he was unbelievable. We hope to see that again.”
The England star scored in Manchester United’s 2-1 win at Manchester City in the derby on Saturday evening.
Rashford has carried the mantle in the absence of Paul Pogba over the past couple of months.
Manchester United ended their winless run with a key victory over top-six rivals Tottenham on Wednesday night.
The Red Devils are in fifth spot in the Premier League table.
