‘Unbelievable’: Peter Schmeichel hails Man United star for derby display
Man United legend Peter Schmeichel heaps praise on Daniel James for his impressive performances
Peter Schmeichel says Manchester United star Daniel James was “unbelievable” in Saturday evening’s 2-1 win at Manchester City.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side pulled off a shock in the Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium thanks to a 2-1 win.
Marcus Rashford broke the deadlock from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute before Anthony Martial doubled the visitors’ lead six minutes later.
Nicolas Otamendi halved the deficit with five minutes to go but Manchester United dug deep to ensure they left Eastlands with maximum points.
James completed the full quota of minutes in the derby clash, laying on the assist for Martial’s goal in the first half at The Etihad.
The Welsh winger completed 90 per cent of his attempted passes in a composed performance from the summer signing despite getting his first taste of the Manchester derby.
Former Manchester United goalkeeper Schmeichel was quick to heap praise on James for his resilient performance on the wing for Solskjaer’s team.
“Someone who is not going to grab the headlines is Daniel James,” Schmeichel told Premier League Productions, as quoted by Metro.
“Today he was unbelievable, chasing every ball, he was in every counter-attack and, at the same time, he was doubling up with [Aaron] Wan-Bissaka on the right hand side.
“Ryan [Giggs] must be so happy to see one of his players perform so well. He’s played every single game this season and he’s still playing well.
“That’s a fantastic signing and he played fantastic today.”
Manchester United won back-to-back Premier League games for the first time this season thanks to their 2-1 win at Manchester City.
The Red Devils were also 2-1 winners against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League last week.
Solskjaer’s side will return to Premier League action with a home clash against Everton on Sunday.
