Jose Mourinho has insisted that he looks back at his time at Manchester United fondly.

The Portuguese coach was sacked as Red Devils boss almost exactly a year ago after a poor start to the season left them struggling to find form in the Premier League.

Mourinho led Manchester United to a League Cup and Europa League double in the 2016-17 season but he was unable to steer the Red Devils towards a genuine Premier League title challenge.

The 56-year-old has since taken over at Tottenham Hotspur after having been drafted in to replace the sacked Mauricio Pochettino last month.

Mourinho was quizzed about how he feels now about his spell at Manchester United and the former Red Devils boss delivered an open response when quizzed in the lead-up to Spurs’ trip to Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

Mourinho was quoted as saying by Sky Sports: “This [Man United] is a closed chapter for me. I left the club and took my time to process everything that happened and to prepare myself for the next challenge.

“Manchester United for me is in my book of experiences. A little bit like Mr (Nelson) Mandela was saying: ‘You never lose. You win or you learn.’

“At United I won and I learned. My time after I left was a good time for me. It is not for me to analyse United.

“Going back to Old Trafford is going back to a place where I was happy. You can go to my office upstairs, I still have a couple of pictures of my time at United.”

Manchester United will return to Premier League action on Saturday when they travel to The Etihad to take on fierce derby rivals Manchester City.

The Red Devils are aiming to try and break back into the top four this season after they finished sixth last term under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
