Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gives advice to Man United star Marcus Rashford
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has some advice for Marcus Rashford about suggestions that Man United could sign Erling Haaland in January
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told Marcus Rashford that he should relish the possibility of increased competition at Manchester United should Erling Haaland arrive in the January transfer window.
Manchester United have been linked with a move to sign Haaland, 19, in recent days as the January transfer window draws nearer and presents Solskjaer with the chance to bolster his squad.
The Red Devils are likely to be touted as a possible destination for a host of attacking players in the coming weeks as Solskjaer ponders some new additions in the new year.
Rashford has been in good form for Manchester United in recent games and the 22-year-old has been a near-constant presence in the Red Devils’ starting line-up this season.
Speaking before Sunday’s clash with Everton, Solskjaer was asked about whether Rashford should be worried about the speculation linking Haaland with a move to Old Trafford in the January transfer window.
And the Red Devils boss replied: “I was a player here for 11 years and I can’t tell you how many strikers we signed that were supposedly going to take my place in the team or in the squad.
“That’s the challenge of being at Manchester United. You are never, ever guaranteed to play every game unless you perform to the absolute best of your ability.
“That’s down to Marcus, in the end, but what I would say is that he wants this squad to be as strong as possible.
“We all want to win games, we all want to win trophies and you don’t do that with 11 players.”
Manchester United are in League Cup action on Wednesday night when they take on Colchester at Old Trafford.
After that, they will play Watford, Newcastle United and Burnley during the hectic festive period in the Premier League.
