Roy Keane suggests Man United should sell Anthony Martial
Man United legend Roy Keane says Anthony Martial has been given enough chances at Old Trafford
Roy Keane says Anthony Martial has been given enough chances at Manchester United.
The France international has struggled to find consistency at Old Trafford since impressing in his first season in Premier League football under Louis van Gaal.
Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have both struggled to extract top-class form on a regular basis from the 24-year-old for Manchester United.
Martial produced a rare commanding performance in Manchester United’s 2-1 victory over defending Premier League champions Manchester City on Saturday.
The former AS Monaco star scored Manchester United’s second goal in the 29th minute after Marcus Rashford broke the deadlock from the penalty spot.
Martial and his attacking team-mates had the hosts on the back foot for the opening half hour before the visitors soaked up pressure for the final 60 minutes.
However, Keane still doesn’t believe Martial has a long-term future at Manchester United in spite of his derby display.
Debating Martial’s performances in the Sky Sports studio with his former team-mate Gary Neville after the 2-1 victory, Keane said:
“Gary, you make the point about the player, the key for any player when you talk about a big club… you don’t know what you’re going to get from him. They are no good to you. They are no good to you.
“He’s had plenty of chances has he not?”
When Neville suggested Martial could score 25 goals per season, Keane replied:
“How long do you wait? How long do you wait when you’re Man United?”
Manchester United signed Martial in a £36m deal from AS Monaco in the 2015 summer transfer window.
Martial has scored four times and has made three assists in 10 games in the Premier League this term.
