Manchester United are interested in a deal to sign Napoli forward Dries Mertens at the end of the season, according to a report in Italy.
Italian media outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, as quoted by the Daily Mail, is reporting that Manchester United are one of the clubs interested in Mertens.
The same article states that the Red Devils have contacted the Netherlands international’s representatives to discuss a potential deal ahead of the expiration of his current Napoli contract.
According to the same story, Mertens is likely to leave the Naples club at the end of the current Serie A campaign on a free transfer.
The article reports that Manchester United are one of a number of potential suitors for the Dutch winger, including Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain.
TuttoMercatoWeb go on to add that Napoli could accelerate Mertens’ departure to January if the Serie A giants make a move for Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Manchester United are thought to be eager to add more pace to their team under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Red Devils have signed three players since Solskjaer’s appointment back in December 2018.
The 20-time English champions brought in Leicester City defender Harry Maguire, Swansea City winger Daniel James and Crystal Palace defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the summer.
