Manchester United have ended their interest in 33-year-old Mario Mandzukic, according to a report in England

Manchester United have ended their interest in Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic, according to a report in England.

The Athletic, as quoted by Inside Futbol, is reporting that Manchester United are no long chasing the Croatia international ahead of the January transfer window.

The same article states that Manchester United may have been worried about his fitness levels given that the 33-year-old hasn’t played for the Serie A champions so far this season.

According to the same story, the Red Devils are worried about whether Mandzukic would be able to hit the ground running given his lack of competitive football this term.

The report goes on to add that the 20-time English champions are set to increase their interest in Red Bull Salzburg striker Erling Haaland after his prolific form this season.

Manchester United lost 2-1 to FC Astana in the Europa League on Thursday night to end their impressive away record in the competition.

The Red Devils will take on Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in their final Europa League group-stage fixture with a place in the next round already assured.

Solskjaer’s men will need to beat Alkmaar to be assured of top spot in the group.

The Red Devils played a 3-3 draw with promoted side Sheffield United last weekend to lose further ground on the top four.
