Patrick Vieira responds to talk of him becoming next Arsenal manager
Patrick Vieira remains coy when asked about the possibility of him becoming the next Arsenal manager
Patrick Vieira has remained coy when quizzed about the speculation linking him with the vacant manager’s job at Arsenal.
The Gunners are currently on the lookout for a new permanent manager after opting to sack Unai Emery last month following a dismal run of form in all competitions.
Freddie Ljungberg has assumed temporary charge at The Emirates while Arsenal look for a long-term successor for Emery.
Former Arsenal captain Vieira has been touted as a possible candidate for the next Gunners manager as the north London club continue their search for a new boss.
Vieira was once again asked about the speculation linking him with a move to The Emirates over the weekend, but the 43-year-old did not give much away.
Vieira is quoted as saying by the Daily Express: “You can never ignore a club where you’ve spent nine years.
“But, honestly, I’m focused on this project at Nice, I feel very good here. It’s a very exciting project.
“I’ve always said that I’m very happy in Nice.
“We’re all working to move the club forward and there is potential.”
Arsenal will take on Standard Liege in the Europa League on Thursday night before they host defending champions Manchester City at The Emirates next Sunday afternoon.
The Gunners will be aiming to try and break back into the top four this season under their new manager after they finished fifth and without a trophy under Emery last term.
Arsenal have not won the Premier League title since both Vieira and Ljungberg were playing for the club back in 2004.
