Michael Owen outlines what Naby Keita gives Liverpool FC
BT Sport pundit Michael Owens says Naby Keita provides Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp with a nice variety up front
Michael Owen says Naby Keita gives Liverpool FC a “nice mixture” of options in midfield.
The Guinea international produced a man of the match performance in Liverpool FC’s 2-0 victory over RB Salzburg in their final Champions League group-stage fixture on Tuesday night.
Keita broke the deadlock in the 57th minute in Switzerland after the Liverpool FC number eight managed to get on the end of Sadio Mane’s cross and steer a header into the goal.
The African midfielder has now scored twice in successive games after Keita found the net and made an assist in Liverpool FC’s 3-0 victory over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium last weekend.
Keita’s Liverpool FC career so far has been hampered by a series of niggles that have prevented the £48m signing from having a lasting impact on Jurgen Klopp’s team.
However, the former RB Leipzig midfielder may have turned a welcome corner in his Reds career judging by his last two performances in the Liverpool FC starting XI.
Ex-Liverpool FC striker Owen believes that Keita can provide Klopp with a different option in midfield if the Reds boss decides a fresh approach is required.
“It’s nice that they’ve got a nice mixture now, he changes the way they play,” Owen told BT Sport. “The Ox can burst through with the ball and shoot from distance.
“Keita can make late runs into the box, probing and getting into those pockets.
“Then you’ve got Milner, Henderson Fabinho who can do the defensive role.”
Keita is competing with the likes of James Milner, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Adam Lallana for a starting spot in Klopp’s team.
