Dimitar Berbatov states his prediction for West Ham v Arsenal
Former Spurs striker Dimitar Berbatov says the London derby could bring the best out of West Ham and Arsenal
Dimitar Berbatov is backing West Ham to edge to a narrow win against Arsenal in the London derby on Monday night.
The Gunners will be hoping to record their first Premier League victory under club legend Freddie Ljungberg.
The retired Sweden international took over the reins from Unai Emery last month but Ljungberg has struggled to revive Arsenal’s fortunes.
The Gunners played out a 2-2 draw with Norwich City in his opening game in charge at Carrow Road despite Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s double.
Arsenal slumped to a 2-1 defeat by Brighton at The Emirates on Thursday to leave the Gunners in 10th position in the Premier League table.
West Ham were 1-0 winners against bitter rivals Chelsea FC in the London derby at Stamford Bridge last weekend.
However, the east London side couldn’t build on that result following a 2-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers in mid-week.
Former Spurs striker Berbatov is backing West Ham to edge a close game between the two struggling Premier League teams on Monday night.
“A London derby could bring the best out in these teams. Or it could bring out the worst. Arsenal are capable of losing to anyone but West Ham have problems too,” Berbatov told Betfair.
“Last weekend’s win at Chelsea was a great moment for the Hammers but they reverted to poor form in their midweek defeat to Wolves.
“These are probably two of the most unpredictable teams in the Premier League, especially as we don’t know yet what impact Freddie Ljunberg will have on the Gunners. I’m going for the home win.”
Arsenal finished in fifth spot in the Premier League table in Unai Emery’s only full season in charge.
The Gunners are a mere five points above the relegation zone following their winless Premier League run that stretches back to 6 October.
