Early career

Nabil joined his hometown club Lyon at the age of 12 but the Ligue 1 side released Fekir due to concerns about his strength.

He returned to one of his former youth teams, FC Vaulx-en-Velin, for three years before Nabil went to Saint-Priest.

A host of top clubs scouted Fekir and the attacker was close to a move to AS Saint-Etienne.

However, Nabil held out for a return to Lyon in 2011, citing his desire to prove his boyhood club wrong for releasing him.
