Aaron Ramsey ‘would love’ to captain Arsenal in the future

The Arsenal midfielder eyes the captain's armband

Aaron Ramsey says he would love to captain Arsenal in the future.

The Wales international skippered the Gunners for the first time against Boreham Wood in a pre-season friendly earlier in the summer.

However, Ramsey hasn’t been handed the honour in a competitive game despite having worn the captain’s armband for the Wales national team.

And the 24-year-old midfielder, who moved to The Emirates from Cardiff City in 2008, revealed he would love to skipper the north London side in the future.

“I’ve had a taste of captaining my country,” Ramsey told Copa 90.

“I would love to have the opportunity one day to do that with Arsenal. Obviously, it is up to the manager to decide.”

Ramsey is yet to score a goal or produce an assist in seven Premier League appearances for Arsene Wenger’s side this season.

The Welshman was a second-half substitute in their 3-2 defeat by Olympiacos in the Champions League at The Emirates last night.

Ramsey has won two FA Cups and the Community Shield during his seven-year stay at The Emirates.

The Welsh midfielder moved to Arsenal in a £4.8m deal from Cardiff City in 2008.
