Agnieszka Radwanska has kept her WTA Finals hopes alive with a 7-6 (7-5) 6-1 win over Simona Halep in Singapore.
Radwanska battled hard to knock out the top seed and secure a victory which also booked Maria Sharapova’s spot in the semi-finals of the season-ending tournament.
Elsewhere on Wednesday, Garbine Muguruza beat sixth seed Angelique Kerber 6-4 6-4 in her second group match, while Petra Kvitova earned her first win of the tournament by beating Lucie Safarova 7-5 7-5.
“Every time I step on the court against Angelique I know it’s going to be difficult, so I just have to give my best if I’m going to get the victory,” Muguruza said.
“I’m really motivated to be here because it’s my first time in Singapore singles! So I really want to come here and win all the matches I can and hopefully go far.”
