Sergio Aguero helped Manchester City end Everton’s unbeaten Premier League start as the Citizens were 3-1 winners at Etihad Stadium.

The Toffees took an early lead before Álvaro Negredo levelled and Aguero put the Citizens into the lead, and the Argentine sealed three points with a second-half penalty, albeit the ball went in off Tim Howard’s head.

Here is a selection of our favourite tweets from the professionals, past and present, in chronological order to City’s comfortable win.

Everton legend Neville Southall (‏@NevilleSouthall) is backing Joe Hart – after a Toffees win of course: “In a couple of hours, we will see if Joe Hart is as good as I think. My blog is backing him but let’s hope he saves it for next week.”

England rugby legend and Everton fan Matt Dawson ‏(@matt9dawson) loves the feel-good factor at the Toffees – before celebrating Lukaku’s opener: “All this Everton positivity is reminding me of the 80s. I only wish my body had the same… Lukakuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu! ……. Ohhh bugger! #canttypefastenough”

Chelsea striker Demba Ba ‏(@dembabafoot) can’t understand why Slyvian Distin has never been picked for France: “I’m wondering why Distin is never called up with French national team. Un mystere….”

Ex-Liverpool striker Stan Collymore ‏(@StanCollymore) has diagnosed Vincent Kompany’s injury: “I think a few defenders may get Lukaku-itis this season… ;)”

Former Leicester City midfielder Robbie Savage (‏@RobbieSavage8) doesn’t agree with the penalty decision: “Jon Moss gives that penalty for City but doesn’t give the one in first half on Lukaku which was worse, poor refereeing!”

West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster (‏@BenFoster) asks what most United fans are wondering: So for my Fantasy Premier League team, will that count as a missed pen for #aguero? But who gets the assist bonus or does that go to Zabaleta?”

Everton striker Romelu Lukaku (@RomeluLukaku9) vows to help the Toffees bounce back: “The run has come to end but we have to keep on working because a lot of great things are ahead of us.”

Finally, City striker Sergio Aguero (@aguerosergiokun) tweets his post-match thoughts: “Great victory on a then-undefeated rival. We keep fighting for the lead and that’s what matters. C’mon, City! Focused on Argentina now. Last round of the Qualifiers soon. Meeting again with the fellas and the crowd will be awesome.”
