Ander Herrera makes honest admission to Man United supporters
Ander Herrera says Manchester United can be proud of themselves after their Europa League win this season
Ander Herrera has admitted that Manchester United fell way short of expectations in the Premier League this season.
The Red Devils ended up in sixth place in the Premier League table after struggling to find consistent form under new manager Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.
However, Manchester United still managed to book their place in next season’s Champions League thanks to their Europa League final win over Ajax on Wednesday night.
The Red Devils also won the EFL Cup and Community Shield trophies in Mourinho’s first season in charge at the club.
And Herrera believes that Manchester United’s Europa League triumph means that the Red Devils can now reflect on a “great” season under the Portuguese coach.
Herrera, who was named as man of the match in the 2-0 win over Ajax, told his post-match news conference in Stockholm: “We know we could have done better in the Premier League so to finish the season with three titles is fantastic.
“It was the game of the season. Now we are talking about a great season. I think our fans are very proud of us. I’m really, really happy.”
Manchester United had finished fifth and won the FA Cup under Louis van Gaal last season before Mourinho’s appointment.
