Jose Mourinho admits that Andre Schurrle will need time to adapt to life at Chelsea but insists he has been pleased with the Germany international’s attitude.

The 22-year-old impressed on international duty for Germany last week, hitting a hat-trick in a 5-3 win over Sweden, but missed Saturday’s victory over Cardiff City with a muscle problem.

Schurrle has made the trip to Germany for Tuesday’s Champions League clash at Schalke – and Mourinho is happy with the midfielder’s development.

“He needs some time to adapt to a different league, a different profile of competition,” said Mourinho.

“But he is a good player, an open kid who wants to work and to learn, so our hopes are on him.

“We are happy with the investment in such a young player.”
