Andre Villas-Boas: I wish I could have repaid Tottenham fans’ faith

Andre Villas-Boas has spoken publicly for the first time since his sacking by Tottenham Hotspur, describing his time in England as a “great experience” and refusing to be drawn on where his next job may lie.

The 36-year-old was dismissed by the north London club after a year-and-a-half in charge following Spurs’ humiliating 5-0 home defeat by Liverpool earlier this month.

The former Porto and Chelsea boss intends to take some time out before deciding on his next club, and admitted that he was desperate to lead Spurs to a trophy this season before his sacking.

“I wish that I could have responded to the confidence of the fans with a trophy. I had great ambitions to win a trophy this season,” Villas-Boas told O Jogo.

“This is now a time of reflection for myself and my staff, and for re-positioning our careers. Nevertheless, England was a great experience.

“The most likely course of action is to wait for the end of the season before thinking of embracing a new project.”
