I want to stay at Newcastle, insists striker Andy Carroll

Striker Andy Carroll has committed his future to Newcastle despite the recent sacking of manager Chris Hughton.

England’s newest recruit has hit the headlines this season after having scored 10 goals in just 17 league appearances. Carroll, 21, blossomed under the management of former boss Hughton but the forward has vowed to continue in the same vein under new manager Alan Pardew.

“I’m just going to go out there and carry on doing what I have been doing,” said Carroll. “I’ve always worked towards being where I am now and want to stay here – it’s as simple as that.”

Carroll helped Newcastle make an immediate return to the top flight with an outstanding campaign as the Magpies clinched the Championship title under Hughton. The imposing striker finished the 2009-10 season as the club’s top scorer with 19 goals to his name.

“Chris [Hughton] has been absolutely fantastic with me. He stuck by me through a lot and helped me on and off the field,” added the forward.

“All I can say is that I appreciate everything that he has done for me. He’s helped me become the player I am now.

“He’s gone now, and I just need to keep working on what he’s taught me, and with the new manager [Pardew], I’ve got to listen to him.”
