Angel di Maria: Man United the only club I’d leave Real Madrid for

Manchester United sign Angel di Maria in a British record £59.7m deal from Real Madrid on Tuesday evening

Angel di Maria has declared that Manchester United were the only club that could tempt the Argentine from Real Madrid after completing his move to Old Trafford.

The 26-year-old forward has signed a five-year deal with the 20-time English champions after United agreed a British record £59.7m fee with los Blancos.

Di Maria, who completed his medical at the club’s Carrington training ground on Tuesday, becomes the fourth signing of Louis van Gaal’s reign.

Whilst the Argentina international was attracting plenty of interest from clubs across Europe, Di Maria insisted that the Red Devils were always his first choice.

“I am absolutely delighted to be joining Manchester United. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in Spain and there were a lot of clubs interested in me, but United is the only club that I would have left Real Madrid for,” Di Maria told United’s website.

“Louis van Gaal is a fantastic coach with a proven track record of success and I am impressed by the vision and determination everyone has to get this club back to the top – where it belongs. I now just cannot wait to get started.”

Di Maria has scored 22 goals in 124 La Liga appearances during four seasons at Madrid.
