Antonio Conte told to complete first Chelsea summer signing right now
Pat Nevin wants to see Chelsea conclude a deal to sign Celtic defender Kieran Tierney this summer
Pat Nevin has urged Chelsea manager Antonio Conte to swiftly conclude a deal to sign Celtic defender Kieran Tierney in the summer.
The Italian coach led the west London side to his first Premier League title earlier this month after Chelsea secured 30 top-flight victories in the 2016-17 season.
Chelsea have been using Marcos Alonso in a wing-back role on the left wing after Conte signed the Spanish defender in a £17m deal from Serie A side Fiorentina last summer.
Tierney has been a key part of the Celtic side that won the Scottish Premier League title without losing a game in their first campaign under Brendan Rodgers this season.
The Scottish teenager has been linked with a move to Chelsea and Manchester United in the summer after a superb breakthrough season at Parkhead.
Speaking to BBC Radio Five Live about speculation linking Tierney with a move to Chelsea this summer, former Blues winger Nevin said:
“I would take Tierney at Chelsea right now. He’s that good. I remember Tierney in his early days and watching him for Scotland against England.
“The highest possible complement you can possibly pay a player is that he reminds me of Danny McGrain. You can’t say anymore than that.”
Chelsea finished seven points clear of second-placed Tottenham Hotspur this season.
