Phil Jagielka felt a draw was a fair result after Everton pegged Arsenal back to hold the Premier League leaders in north London.

After a goalless first half in which the Toffees were on top for large spells, Mesut Ozil gave Arsene Wenger’s men the lead when he tapped home from close range in the 80th minute.

But the Gunners’ lead lasted just four minutes as substitute Gerard Deulofeu’s dipping strike caught out Wojciech Szczesny in the Arsenal goal.

“We played well in the first half and had a bit of a dodgy 10 minutes towards the end which encouraged them,” Jagielka told Sky Sports.

“They came out in the second half with a bit of a point to prove. But I think we were more than value for the point in the end.”

The England international continued: “We’re two good footballing teams. When the other team gets it it’s quite hard to get it back.

“Obviously they’re flying high with confidence and we’re not too bad ourselves. It was difficult at times to get the ball back off each other but I’m sure that the people watching back at home enjoyed the game.”

The draw left Arsenal five points clear at the top of the Premier League table, while Everton moved up to fifth place.

And Toffees boss Roberto Martínez was bursting with pride at his side’s impressive performance in north London.

“I thought we were fantastic throughout,” said Martínez. “I couldn’t be happier, the only bit of criticism I have is that we needed to take the chances and in the final third we were not ruthless enough.

“But I haven’t seen many teams come to The Emirates and be able to do what we did today.”
