Arsene Wenger heaped praise on Jack Wilshere for his positive contribution to Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Newcastle United at The Emirates on Saturday afternoon.
The Gunners midfielder started his second Premier League game in the past seven days to help the north London side edge to a 1-0 win against Newcastle at the Emirates Stadium.
Wilshere completed 90 minutes to put to bed concerns about his fitness problems ahead of the hectic festive schedule over the next month or so.
Speaking at his post-match media conference about Wilshere’s performance against Newcastle, Wenger was pleased with the dynamic midfielder’s fitness levels.
“It’s positive. He had good presence and good drive going forward and did well defensively too. I’m pleased he completed two games in three games,” Wenger said.
The 25-year-old spent the 2016-17 season on loan at Bournemouth and made two assists in 25 appearances in the Premier League before he returned to Arsenal in the summer.
Wenger limited Wilshere to five substitute appearances in the English top flight before his first start of the Premier League season in a goalless draw with West Ham last weekend.
Wilshere has impressed in the Europa League with one goal in six outings to help Arsene Wenger’s side reach the last 32 of the competition.
Arsenal are looking to secure a return to the Champions League this season following the disappointment of missing out this term.
