Brendan Rodgers admitted the best team won at The Emirates after Arsenal secured a comfortable victory over Liverpool.

Spain international Santi Cazorla fired the home side into a 19th minute lead when he volleyed an effort past Simon Mignolet after the midfielder’s header had initially struck the woodwork.

And Arsenal’s in-form Aaron Ramsey scored a long-range strike midway through the second half to cement three points and move the Gunners five points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

“I thought the best team won,” Rodgers told Sky Sports. “They had a greater control of the game but we still had chances. We were threatening and the game was never over until the last whistle.

“They’re mobility and passing was better than ours. We could have done better with their two goals if you analyse them from a coaching perspective.

“But they were probably the better team.”

However, Rodgers did take encouragement from his side’s never-say-die attitude as the Reds kept pressing for a consolation, with Luis Suarez spurning a chance to halve the deficit.

The Liverpool boss was also pleased with the impact of his substitutes Philippe Coutinho and Victor Moses.

“The players have been brilliant in their application. They kept going right until the very end,” he added.

“Philippe Coutinho and Victor Moses coming on were both excellent. We created chances but just couldn’t put the ball in the net.”
