Arsenal 2 Liverpool 0: We were all up for it, declares Aaron Ramsey
Arsenal 2 Liverpool 0: Aaron Ramsey praises his side's winning mentality after the midfielder helps Gunners to victory
Aaron Ramsey praised Arsenal’s winning mentality after the midfielder helped the Gunners beat Liverpool and move five points clear at the top of the table.
Santi Cazorla gave the home side the lead in the 19th minute when he volleyed home after the Spaniard’s initial effort hit the post.
And Ramsey put the game beyond the visitors when he rifled in his 10th goal of the season from 20 yards on the hour-mark.
“We really enjoyed it today,” Ramsey told Sky Sports.
“You could see everyone was up for it – the fans were right behind us from the off and we got stuck into them early on and managed to get the goal which put us in good shape.
“They’re full of confidence as well at the moment, they’re in fine form and they showed that early on but we weathered the storm a bit and managed to get ourselves in front and we finished the job off in the end.”
Ramsey has been one of Arsenal’s standout performers this season – and the midfielder admits he is full of confidence in the final third.
“I’m feeling a lot more confident now in front of goal and that’s up there with the best I’ve scored I think,” he said.
“I’m feeling confident and every opportunity I’m getting I’m feeling good to have a crack on goal.”
The win moved Arsenal five points clear of second-placed Chelsea – and Ramsey admits the north Londoners’ flying start marks a refreshing change.
“It’s something that we’ve been lacking over the last few seasons – we got off to a slow start and we’ve always had to play catch-up,” said Ramsey.
“So it was very important this year to get off to a good start, which we have done.
“We’ve got a nice little gap there now and hopefully we can maintain that because we know form around Christmas and the run-in to the end of the season has been second-to-none of late.
“If we get ourselves into a strong position in January I think we’ll have a very successful season.”
