Arsene Wenger insisted that his side were “very unlucky” after watching Arsenal be pegged back and held to a draw by Swansea City at Emirates Stadium.

After their 6-0 thrashing at Chelsea on Saturday, Wenger’s side fell behind to a Wilfried Bony header in the 11th minute.

However, two goals in 66 second-half seconds lifted spirits as Lukas Podolski poked in and Olivier Giroud scored from close range.

But Swansea snatched a point at the death when the ball ricocheted in off Mathieu Flamini after Leon Britton’s run into the box.

The draw left Arsenal in fourth place in the table, with Everton six points behind in fifth but having played a game less.

“We had a good performance with total commitment and gave absolutely everything. You have to give credit to the team,” Wenger said.

“Overall I feel it’s very unlucky to come out of a game like that with such a dominance and it be 2-2.

“It’s really unlucky but we have to focus on the next one and live with the result.”

Wenger, whose side face Manchester City on Saturday, continued: “They defended well, like all the teams can do now.

“We needed to be patient and not concede the second goal. We did that quite well – we scored two goals in two minutes and after that you could see the drive going forward was less.

“We were maybe just too much concerned to keep the score because of what happened on Saturday.”
