Lee Dixon admitted his surprise at Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s reception on his return to The Emirates on Friday night.
The England international moved to Liverpool FC in a £40m deal from Arsenal on transfer deadline day in the summer.
Oxlade-Chamberlain called time on his seven season spell at the north London club, having won three FA Cup titles in four seasons.
The 24-year-old was named on the bench for Liverpool FC’s Premier League clash against his former club at the Emirates Stadium on Friday night.
The versatile midfielder came off the bench with 10 minutes remaining and was greeted with a chorus of boos from the home supporters.
Former Arsenal defender Dixon admitted his surprise at Oxlade-Chamberlain’s frosty reception at The Emirates in the 3-3 thriller.
“I am surprised at that [reception],” Dixon told NBC Sport. “You’ve got to look at yourself in the mirror. Booing a former player coming back.”
Philippe Coutinho broke the deadlock in the first half with a deft header before Mohamed Salah extended the visitors’ lead shortly after half-time.
However, Alexis Sanchez, Granit Xhaka and Mesut Ozil all scored in four minutes and 45 seconds to turn the Premier League clash on its head.
Liverpool FC forward Roberto Firmino rescued a point for the away side in what was an entertaining 3-3 draw.
The Reds are in fourth place in the Premier League table and a point ahead of their closest rivals Arsenal in fifth spot.
