Jamie Carragher described Arsenal’s 4-3 victory over Leicester City as a “typical” performance from Arsene Wenger’s men on Friday night.

The Gunners made the perfect start to their first Premier League game of the 2017-18 season when new signing Alexandre Lacazette broke the deadlock in the second minute.

However, Arsenal’s defensive frailties were exposed when Shinji Okazaki equalised before England striker Jamie Vardy gave the visitors a 29th-minute lead.

The north London side were level on the stroke of half-time thanks to Danny Welbeck’s finish to give Arsenal a platform to kick on and win the top-flight clash.

But it was Leicester who edged into a 3-2 lead after Vardy steered a super header past Petr Cech to leave the hosts facing possible defeat in their season opener.

Wenger brought on Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud from the bench and the Wales international guided a clinical finish past Leicester shot stopper Kasper Schmeichel in the 82nd minute.

France striker Giroud netted a dramatic winner less than two minutes later when the 30-year-old rose above the Leicester defence to secure three points.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher admitted that he felt Leicester were unlucky to leave The Emirates without a point from the Premier League’s curtain raiser.

“What a night,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“I feel absolutely shattered watching that. Typical Arsenal. They came right through it in the end. You feel for Leicester in some ways.”
