Arsene Wenger believes Arsenal have become more versatile in terms of goal scoring since Robin van Persie’s move to Manchester United.

The Gunners have already scored 13 goals in the Premier League this season, with six different Arsenal players getting on the score sheet in their opening seven games.

In contrast, Arsenal were reliant on Van Persie’s goals last season, with the Netherlands international netting 35 times in the top flight to secure their place in the top four.

“We lost a massive player with Robin van Persie and we had to find a way to get around that,” Wenger told Arsenal’s website.

“We knew that we would not find a player who would score 40 goals but we are a bit more versatile now because Walcott scores, Gervinho scores, Podolski scores, Cazorla scores and of course Giroud starts to score so we should be alright on the offensive front.”

Wenger was also confident Olivier Giroud would finally find his feet in the Premier League after the former Montpellier striker netted his first league goal in Arsenal’s 3-1 win at West Ham United.

“There are two things when you are a striker,” he added.

“First, I’m always worried when a striker doesn’t have chances. In his case, he always had chances in every single game and couldn’t convert them into goals. The conversion rate goes in cycles.

“Once a player starts to score, suddenly he takes off for a while and suddenly it stops again [and] nobody has really found out why. I hope he’s at the start of a good cycle.”
