Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger isn’t under pressure either, says Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho has rubbished the suggestion that he is only the Premier League manager operating without pressure.

The Chelsea boss was left furious after a tame performance resulted in a 1-0 loss to Basel in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The west London side have lost five games in all competitions this season as the Blues endured their worst start to a Premier League campaign since Roman Abramovich bought the club.

But Mourinho appears to continue to operate without pressure, in contrast to the focus on his former understudy Andre Villas-Boas after Tottenham Hotspur slipped to successive top-flight defeats.

However, the 50-year-old highlighted Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger as an example of a manager who rarely feels the heat at his club.

Mourinho said: “I don’t think Arsene Wenger is under pressure. He is in the job for 20 years and hasn’t won a competition for eight years – he is under pressure?”

The Chelsea boss added that he has learnt how to cope with disappointing results throughout spells at Porto, Inter Milan and Real Madrid – as well as his first stint at the Blues.

“I am the type to put pressure on myself. I don’t think you need to be worried about anything else,” he continued.

“Year after year, title after title, I don’t change. If we lose or don’t play well, I’m not happy. If we lose, I want to win the next match. If we lose, I want the next training session to improve.

“I am at the stage of my career, probably the best moment of my career, which is being a young manager with years and years of experience, where nothing is new to me in football.

“Everything that happens to me is like Dejà vu.”
