Arsenal star Petr Cech replies to question about Chelsea FC transfer speculation
The Arsenal goalkeeper attempts to shed light on his future amid talk of a return to Chelsea FC this summer
Petr Cech has remained tightlipped on talk of the Arsenal goalkeeper completing a potential return to Chelsea FC this summer.
The Czech Republic international was handed the number one shirt at the end of the Premier League season despite the north London side’s disappointing sixth-placed finish.
The 36-year-old has allowed mistakes to creep into his performances over the past couple of seasons at Arsenal since his £11m move from Chelsea FC in the 2015 summer transfer window.
New Arsenal manager Unai Emery has signed Germany international Bernd Leno in a £20m deal from Bundesliga outfit Bernd Leno to provide Cech and David Ospina with competition for a starting spot.
In addition, Chelsea FC are facing the possibility of losing Belgium international Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid in a £31m deal before the start of the new season.
The 27-year-old will leave a void in the Chelsea FC team and there has been talk of the Blues re-signing their club legend to replace Courtois in Maurizio Sarri’s team.
However, Cech has appeared to pour cold water on talk of a return to Chelsea FC when asked about his future.
“I have a contract with Arsenal,” Cech is quoted as saying by Arsenal’s website.
“I am concentrating on this season, on the competition between the goalkeepers because we have plenty of options. I’m doing my best to show to the manager that I can be in the starting lineup when the season starts. That’s my aim and as for the speculation, I don’t really follow it.”
Chelsea FC finished in fifth spot ahead of Arsenal in the Premier League last term.
