Arsenal need 28-year-old attacker to win the title, claims Ian Wright
Arsenal legend Ian Wright doesn't believe the Gunners can win the Premier League title without Alexis Sanchez
Arsenal’s chances of winning the Premier League title hinge on Alexis Sanchez, according to Ian Wright.
The Chile international’s future at the north London side is far from certain after the 28-year-old entered the final 12 months of his current contract.
Arsenal have been unable to agree a contract extension with the South American, which has raised the possibility of Sanchez leaving the FA Cup holders this summer.
Manchester City have been touted as a possible destination for Sanchez, but Arsenal are thought to be unwilling to sell to a direct title rival.
Paris Saint-Germain were previously linked with a move to sign the Chile international but the French club have since added Neymar in a world-record 198m deal from Barcelona.
Sanchez scored 24 times in 37 games in the Premier League last season, but Arsenal still finished in fifth place in the table behind Liverpool.
Former Arsenal striker Wright believes Sanchez will have a key role to play if the north London side are to challenge for the title.
“Oh gosh, yes [it hinges on Sanchez],” Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“We need more but we have a much better chance with Sanchez in there.
“With Sanchez gone, it’s 20 goals guaranteed gone.”
The Gunners were thrilling 4-3 winners against Leicester City in the opening game of the new Premier League season on Friday night.
Sanchez missed the seven-goal thriller following his delayed return to pre-season training.
Arsenal won the Community Shield last weekend thanks to a penalty shootout victory over Chelsea.
