Arsene Wenger replies when asked about his future at Arsenal
The Arsenal manager was in a prickly mood when asked about speculation surrounding his future at the north London club
Arsene Wenger was quick to dismiss questions about his Arsenal future ahead of Thursday night’s clash against Manchester City.
The Gunners suffered a humiliating 3-0 loss to Premier League leaders Manchester City in the League Cup final at Wembley last weekend.
Arsenal are in sixth place in the Premier League table and 10 points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur in the race to secure a Champions League spot.
The north London side are a staggering 28 points adrift of the current leaders ahead of their meeting at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday night.
Wenger has been facing increasing speculation about his long-term future at the Gunners amid talk of potential replacement being lined up in the summer.
Report in England over the past week have touted former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique and Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers as potential replacements for Wenger.
Asked about his future at the north London club at his pre-match media conference at London Colney training ground on Wednesday, Wenger replied:
“Honestly, my position is the last worry I have, my focus is to get the team ready for the game.
“We are in that kind of situation where you want to focus on the next game.
“I don’t ask if your position is reviewed at the end of the season. My job is to perform and it is for other people to evaluate.”
Arsenal missed out on a Champions League spot last term after the Gunners finished in fifth place behind Liverpool FC.
Wenger’s side signed Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Manchester United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the January transfer window.
