Martin Keown believes Arsenal full-back Hector Bellerin can learn from summer signing Stephan Lichtsteiner.
The Gunners signed the 34-year-old in a free transfer from Serie A champions Juventus in the 2018 summer transfer window.
Lichtsteiner will compete with Bellerin for a starting spot on the right side of defence under Unai Emery.
The Switzerland international came off the bench to make his debut in a 2-0 loss to Manchester City in the Premier League last weekend.
Lichtsteiner replaced Ashley Naitland-Miles in the first half following Raheem Sterling’s ninth minute winner.
Bellerin has struggled to find consistency since his initial impressive performances in the Arsenal team.
Former Arsenal defender Keown believes Bellerin can learn lessons from veteran Swiss captain Lichtsteiner.
“It was interesting to see that when Stephan Lichtsteiner came on, straight away he was fighting for the cause and getting into a few rows,” Keown told the Daily Mail. “He wasn’t prepared to accept what was happening and was more demanding of the players in front of him.
“I want to see more of this from the younger players such as Bellerin.”
The Gunners signed Juventus defender Lichtsteiner and Borussia Dortmund centre-half Sokratis Papastathopoulos in the summer.
Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno was signed in a £22m deal before Arsenal signed Sampdoria star Lucas Torreira and Lorient teenager Matteo Guendouzi.
Arsenal finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a Champions League spot.
The Gunners lost 2-1 to Atletico Madrid in the Eurppa League semi-final last term to miss out on a first European trophy under Wenger.
