‘We have to be calm’: David Luiz sends message to Arsenal supporters
Arsenal star David Luiz isn't panicking about the north London side's mixed results in the Premier League
David Luiz says Arsenal must keep believing in Unai Emery’s philosophy despite their mixed start to the Premier League season.
The Gunners suffered a shock 1-0 loss to promoted side Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Monday night.
Arsenal have been unable to build upon a positive start to the season over the past couple of weeks.
The north London side have only managed to win four of their last six Premier League games.
Emery’s side have dropped out of the top four at the expense of Chelsea FC following their inconsistent results.
The Spanish head coach has been coming under pressure given the investment in new playing staff in the summer.
Luiz was one of six new arrivals at The Emirates after the Brazilian defender completed an £8m switch from Chelsea FC.
The Arsenal star urged the club’s supporters to remain calm despite their subdued performances in recent weeks.
“We have to be honest about what went wrong, but we also have to be calm,” Luiz told Sky Sports.
“It’s only our second defeat this season. We are doing many things well.
“We have to keep believing in our philosophy, we have to keep believing in our team, which is the best way for us to improve.
“Football is about the end, not the beginning, so let’s see how we finish at the end of the season in May.”
Arsenal will take on Crystal Palace at The Emirates in their next Premier League fixture on Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles have already beaten Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Premier League earlier this term.
Arsenal have missed out on a top-four finish in the last two seasons under Arsene Wenger and then Emery.
The Gunners are in fifth spot and 10 points adrift of Liverpool FC.
