Hector Bellerin sends message to Arsenal supporters about Pep Guardiola
The Arsenal star tells the Gunners to give Unai Emery time to implement change at the north London side
Hector Bellerin has urged Arsenal supporters to be patient with Unai Emery after pointing to Pep Guardiola’s mixed first season in the Premier League.
The Gunners appointed Emery as Arsene Wenger’s replacement following the French head coach’s 22 seasons in charge of the north London side.
Arsenal have turned to the former Paris Saint-Germain manager after Emery won the Ligue 1 title in the 2017-18 season to see off AS Monaco and Lyon.
The north London side signed five players in the summer transfer window following the addition of Stephan Lichtsteiner, Bernd Leno, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi.
The Gunners lost 2-0 to defending Premier League champions Manchester City following goals from Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva either side of half-time.
Speaking to Arsenal’s website about Emery’s start to life as Gunners boss, Bellerin urged the north London side to give the new Arsenal manager time to implement change.
“I think after 22 years under Arsene Wenger there are many things that are changing so it’s important for everyone to get used to all the players,” Bellerin said.
“Everyone should be very excited because it’s a new era for us and it’s about learning with the new coach, learning the new system and I’m sure we’ll get better.
“If you compare it to Guardiola’s first year it was a very hard year for him – and look where they are now! So we need to look at it that way. It’s a positive change and we’re excited.”
Arsenal will make the short trip to FA Cup holders Manchester City in their next Premier League fixture at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
The Gunners haven’t won the Premier League title since 2003-04 when Arsenal finished the campaign without losing a game.
The north London side finished outside the top four in the last two seasons.
