Lee Dixon: What Jack Wilshere needs to prove to Arsenal

The Arsenal legend warns Jack Wilshere that he still has to prove his fitness and his best position at the north London side

Jack Wilshere needs to prove his fitness and find his best position at Arsenal, according to Lee Dixon.

The Gunners star was one of the north London side’s outstanding performers in Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.

Wilshere broke the deadlock in the second half with a brilliant goal following his surge into the penalty area and instinctive finish past Thibaut Courtois.

The 26-year-old has little over six months remaining on his current Arsenal deal to throw up the possibility of the Gunners losing their talismanic figure for nothing next summer.

Wilshere has managed to return from a season-long loan to win back a regular starting spot in Arsene Wenger’s team and force talk of a new deal with his future up in the air.

While Dixon has been impressed with Wilshere’s performances, the Arsenal legend posed two questions that still need to be answered about the Englishman.

“There has never been any question about his desire to stay and his ability,” Dixon told NBC Sport. “The only question is his fitness level because of the terrible injuries he has had and where is his best position.”

Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a Champions League starting spot.

The Gunners did win their third FA Cup crown in four seasons thanks to a 2-1 win against Chelsea at Wembley.
