Jamie Carragher believes there is a sense of resignation about Arsenal players and supporters after a 3-0 loss to Manchester City at The Emirates on Thursday night.

The Gunners were looking to bounce back from a disappointing performance at Wembley last weekend after Arsenal lost 3-0 to Manchester City in the League Cup final.

Goals from Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany and David Silva to secure their first piece of silverware under Spanish head coach Pep Guardiola.

Arsenal had the chance to put things right with a positive performance when Manchester City made the trip to north London on Thursday night.

The Gunners produced an insipid performance in a 3-0 defeat by the Premier League leaders at a half empty Emirates Stadium.

Former Liverpool FC defender Carragher delivered his depressing verdict on Arsenal following the latest nadir in their dismal season.

“I think last season, there were scenes at this club and anger and marches against Arsene Wenger which I thought was a disgrace,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“But [Thursday night] I think was worse. They’re not actually interested, they didn’t turn up. I’m not having a go at them for not coming.

“There were a few boos at the end, but that’s not like what it was last season when there was anger. That was like resignation, as if just waiting for the manager to go.

“You think how sad is that? There’s very few Arsenal fans who want Arsene Wenger as manager next season, and that is very sad because when I was playing it was him and Alex Ferguson battling it out as the top manager and you think: ‘Wow, he’s a legendary figure’.

“Not just for Arsenal but in the English game. But they have to change it. If they’d won 3-0, it wouldn’t make any difference.”

Arsenal are in fifth place in the Premier League table after Arsene Wenger’s side finished outside the Champions League qualification spots for the first time under the Frenchman.

The Gunners will take on Serie A giants AC Milan in the Europa League last 16 with a place in the Champions League next term up for grabs for the competition’s winner.
