The former Gunners defender is tipping Arsenal to finish in the top four
Arsenal will finish in the Premier League’s top four this season, Matthew Upson has claimed.
The Gunners have seen a summer of change at the north London outfit ahead of the new Premier League season.
Spanish head coach Unai Emery took over the reins from Arsene Wenger after the Frenchman stood down following 22 years in charge,
Emery wasted no time improving his squad by adding experienced defenders such as Stephan Lichtsteiner and Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
The Arsenal boss signed World Cup star Lucas Torreira in a £26m deal from Serie A giants Sampdoria following his performances for Uruguay.
The north London side added Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno in a £20m deal, while Lorient teenager Mateo Guendouzi sealed a move.
Arsenal have missed out on a top four finish in the last two Premier League seasons to deny the Gunners fans Champions League football.
Former Gunners defender Upson believes Arsenal will secure a Champions League for the first time since 2016.
“I think so [they will finish in the top four],” Upson told Sky Sports’ The Debate. “The signings they’ve made have addressed the positions and signings they needed to be better.
“They are signings who will do the basics and do them well.”
Arsenal lost 2-1 to Spanish giants Atletico Madrid in the Europa League semi-finals to miss out on a first European triphy under Wenger.
