Mesut Ozil only getting better at Arsenal, claims ex-midfielder
Former Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva believes Mesut Ozil is only improving in the Gunners team

Gilberto Silva has made a surprise claim that Mesut Ozil is only getting “better and better” in the Arsenal team.
The Germany international is starting his fourth season at the north London club after the Gunners spent a then club-record £42.5m fee to sign the World Cup winner from Real Madrid.
Ozil’s most productive season was in 2015-16 when the 28-year-old finished with a return of six goals and 19 assists in 35 appearances in the Premier League.
However, the former Schalke 04 midfielder hasn’t won the Premier League title since moving to Arsenal but the Gunners have lifted the FA Cup three times in four seasons.
Ozil has often been criticised for his uninspiring performances in an Arsenal shirt, particularly when Arsene Wenger’s team have struggled against their title rivals or in big Champions League games.
Indeed, former Arsenal defender Martin Keown and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard scapegoated Ozil following Arsenal’s 1-0 loss to Stoke City at The Britannia last weekend.
But ex Gunners midfielder Silva is a big fan of Ozil and the retired Brazilian midfielder believes the Germany international is only getting better at the north London club.
“Ozil has done so well for the club, so I was happy that listened to those around him and decided to stay at the club,” said Silva, speaking exclusively to 888sport.
“Year on year he is getting better and better, with his ability always improving. It’s so important that he gets the support of those around him as well, to let him do what he does best.
“The team are supporting him a lot on the field, to help him produce what is expected of him.”
Ozil still managed a respectable return of eight goals and nine assists in 33 appearances in the Premier League last term.
