Lee Dixon explains why Mesut Ozil is Arsenal weakness
The ex-England international was critical of the Gunners number 10 and his teammates after they lacked organisation in the defeat to Chelsea FC
Lee Dixon has admitted that he is worried about the lack of discipline with Arsenal’s shape in their 3-2 loss to Chelsea FC.
Arsenal found themselves two goals down after twenty minutes as Chelsea carved open their defence with ease.
Dixon singled out the much-maligned Mesut Özil as a key factor in this issue as the former Germany international once again found himself under scrutiny for failing to match the supposed intensity of the Premier League.
Dixon said on NBC: “Arsenal were still open. That’s the worry for me. Özil plays into that.”
Özil has been subject to a media frenzy in his native Germany after he stepped down from the national team amid heavy criticism for his performances at the World Cup in Russia this summer.
The Arsenal star, who is of Turkish heritage, hit out at alleged racism in the Germany set up and suggested the failings of players who play in the Bundesliga were being overlooked in favour of scapegoating him instead.
The statistics tend to agree with Ozil’s claim that the criticism was unfair as he led the team in chances created, though he could not stop their exit at the group stage for the first time since 1938.
Ozil’s languid style tends to draw criticism from fans and the media as it is perceived that modern teams cannot afford to have players who drift in and out of play.
Dixon is no different, and he believes Arsenal’s organisation is suffering for having the former-Real Madrid star in their side.
