Unai Emery: Mesut Ozil can adapt to my Arsenal style
Arsenal manager Unai Emery is confident Mesut Ozil can adapt to his style of play at the north London side
Unai Emery has dropped a hint that Mesut Ozil does have a future at Arsenal after he insisted the German midfielder can adapt to his style at The Emirates.
The 30-year-old has struggled to hold down a starting spot in the Arsenal team in the current campaign to raise questions about his long-term future at The Emirates.
Ozil was omitted from Arsenal’s squads for their 1-1 draw with bitter rivals Manchester United on Monday night as well as their 4-0 victory over Standard Liege in the Europa League on Thursday night.
The retired Germany international has struggled to feature on a regular basis since Emery took over the reins of the north London side from Arsene Wenger in 2018.
Ozil signed a lucrative new deal in February 2018 during the final months of Wenger’s reign, making the World Cup winner one of the best-paid players in the Premier League.
The Gunners were thought to be eager to offload Ozil in the summer but his wages may have proved a big stumbling block for any potential suitors of the Arsenal number 10.
However, Emery has insisted that Ozil is capable of adapting to his vision for Arsenal’s style of play.
“He can play how I want, but now we have a lot of players being competitive in each position on the pitch and they deserve to be able to help and to play,” Emery is quoted as saying by Metro.
“Now every player is the same and I want to train, I want them to be pushing to achieve one position in the squad, in the first XI.
“If we continue being competitive and getting better, it is the best for our present and future.”
The Gunners will return to Premier League action after the international break when they take on Sheffield United away from home.
